Fans of multiplayer horror survival games will want to keep an eye out for Sons of the Forest, the highly-anticipated sequel to The Forest. Not much is known about the upcoming game since developer Endnight Games is determined to keep things hush hush for the time being.

Based on what little gameplay footage the four-man indie studio has released, players can probably expect the same survival, building, and exploration mechanics as well as creepy mutant cannibals to to take down or hide from while roaming the vast open world map with up to seven other players.

“Sent to find a missing billionaire on a remote island, you find yourself in a cannibal-infested hellscape. Craft, build, and struggle to survive, alone or with friends, in this terrifying new open-world survival horror simulator.”

Sons of the Forest was originally scheduled for release in May 2022 but Endnight decided to push the launch back to this October, admitting that release window was “overly ambitious” if they wanted to deliver the “next step” in survival games. With October fast approaching, the studio has once again delayed the game’s launch to February 2023.

“Due to the scope of our new game Sons of the Forest, it has been hard to pinpoint an exact release date, and today we have to delay one last time,” tweeted Endnight.

The game will initially launch exclusively on PC via Steam with a $29.99 price tag followed by a PlayStation launch sometime after its release. An Xbox release probably won’t be coming anytime soon although the studio is still open to the possibility.

In the meantime, you can check out gameplay snippets from the upcoming game in glorious 4K in the age-restricted trailer below.
