Skull And Bones Might Be Coming Out This Fall, Official Reveal Coming Soon

After six long years in development and multiple delays, Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones, will reportedly be making land as early as this fall. Sources familiar with the project told Kotaku that Ubisoft was planning to launch the long-delayed pirate MMORPG this spring but was later pushed back to summer, and then September.
The sources also revealed that the game, which started as an expansion for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, has cost the French publisher over $200 million to date and that there’s mounting pressure within the studio to ship it out as soon as possible.
Gameplay footage of Skull and Bones was also leaked a few days ago showing several core mechanics, including completing contracts for NPCs to rank up and gain access to new ship upgrades and designs. Players will also be able to stock their ships with water, rations, ammunition, and repair kits before heading out to sea. Players that get their ship destroyed or if their crew mutinies will lose rank and respawn in a new location and other players will be able to salvage the remains of their ship.
The leaked footage has since been removed but a spokesperson for Ubisoft acknowledged the leak as the real deal and teased an upcoming official reveal for the project.
“We confirm this is a glimpse of our upcoming game Skull and Bones,” said the spokesperson. “Recently, we ran a technical test for the game and some of its details became public. This video footage was taken from an early version of the game and doesn’t reflect the quality and features of the final game. We’ll share more details about the game soon.”
We’ll keep you posted on any new developments. In the meantime, Ubisoft is currently running an Insider Program for those who want to take the game out to sea before it’s official launch.
