Heroic Games’ superhero-themed MMORPG Ship of Heroes might be arriving later than expected but the good news is that the summer open beta is still happening in spite of a slight delay. The beta test was initially scheduled for this month but will now be kicking off on August 7, according to the official press release.

“Ship of Heroes is having another Beta, starting August 7th. The signup for the event will begin on July 31st. This game is moving steadily toward launch. For a small indie team, this is kind of amazing. There are not a lot of new MMORPGs being launched – the entire genre is suppressed by the belief that big, ambitious MMOs are simply too expensive to create. Heroic Games is pushing back against that defeatist mindset.”

The beta test will run for three weeks and will feature five hero archetypes, 25 Power Sets, the new Assemble and Regroup powers, and around 3-4 hours of content, including a full mission arc called Iris. Players can also expect the addition of multiple respawn points for mission maps, traps, UI improvements, and other quality-of-life improvements.

“We are showing off the first Iris mission arc, which has several branching choices that can interact in complex ways. Iris is the archmage of the Mage’s Guild, and this arc includes some of the magic and the sci-fi elements of Ship of Heroes.”
