A new RuneScape newsletter is on deck with updates on the current state of the game and previews of an upcoming RuneScape-inspired cookbook of, of all things. The more important bit of news is that open beta testing has begun for the previously announced combat changes and adjustments coming to the classic MMORPG.

Over the next few weeks, testers will be given the chance to get hands-on experience and hopefully provide feedback on potential changes to the combat system, including a simplified critical strike system, increased damage potentials, and bumped up damage caps for all combat styles.

On the subject of feedback, Jagex’s strike team has ticked off several items from the community hitlist with a fix for woodcutting issues, improvements to clue-solving, and the buffs to the “Feeling Pumped” mutator, rebalanced costs for Slayer Masks, and the ability to combine brawling gloves of the same type.

As for the cookbook, the studio offered a preview of recipes for real-world recreations of in-game dishes, such as the Cake of Guidance, a “proper” Gnome Batta, Fire-Blackened Shrimp, and Baked Potatoes. You can check them out for yourselves on the RuneScape official website.
