Queues Abound As Destiny: Rise Of Iron Launches
I hope you didn't take off work to play Destiny: Rise of Iron today because the launch saw such a large turnout that the servers are crashing. When they are up, people are being placed in queues, hoping that their game doesn't crash once they make it to the front of the line. That being said, Bungie is "actively investigating issues preventing players from connecting to Destiny on all platforms" as I type this, so I am sure that the issues will be resolved in no time.
Perhaps part of the reason that the servers are overwhelmed is that Destiny: Rise of Iron saw "record-setting pre-orders," as Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg explains in the following quote.
Rise of Iron's record shattering pre-orders make it by far our most anticipated expansion for Destiny ever-and for good reason. It's packed with incredible new adventures that Destiny players are going to love. Along with our partners at Bungie, we can't wait for our fans to explore "The Plaguelands," conquer an entirely new Raid, "Wrath of the Machine," and tackle all new modes, a new Strike, quests, weapons, and gear. I, for one, can't stop playing. And you won't be able to either.
As for the expansion itself, Rise of Iron adds a whole new cinematic story that is set in a new zone called "The Plaguelands." A new faction of the Fallen Devils known as "the Splicers" have been introduced and, "under the command of Lord Saladin," players will be required to face them as they work to "unravel the mystery of the Iron Lords." New weapons, armor, and gear are also included, as well as a brand new raid.
