New World Begins Testing Eternal Frost And Players Aren’t Happy With The Changes
Temperatures have dropped on the New World test server as Amazon Game Studios begins testing the open-world MMORPG’s fourth season - Eternal Frost. Those looking to take the season’s featured content for a spin can now login to the PTR to check out the new quests, the new Glacial Tarn expedition, and new rewards, as well as the plethora of balance changes that will be implemented in the season update.
The said changes have already drawn criticism from the community who have been grumbling about the imbalances that it will bring to gem conversion, crafting, and PvP. Of particularly note is a nerf to 3v3 Arena rewards that aims to encourage players to try out other PvP activities.
“We originally wanted 3v3 Arenas to be a more challenging space with additional value for the winning players, so we greatly improved the PvP XP and Salts given by the mode in the expansion update,” Amazon explained. “It was a successful change in that sense, but now our other PvP game modes are suffering. We’re reducing 3v3 Arenas so they don’t overshadow other modes as much. As a result, Outpost Rush and War will grant greater rewards.”
The latest PTR release notes are now live on the New World official site if you want to dive into the details. The design team also talks up the new Glacial Tarn expedition in the latest episode of New World’s Forged in Aeternum developer video series.
