New Outpost Rush Battleground Brings Vertical Warfare to New World: Aeternum

Amazon Games is letting adventurers stress-test a brand-new Outpost Rush battleground called Tower of Calomel. The limited-time preview runs from September 23 to 30, 2025 on all live servers. Outpost Rush is New World’s 20-versus-20 PvPvE mode where teams fight for control points while harvesting resources and fending off hostile creatures. Until now, the mode has revolved around a single island map; Calomel is the first fresh layout since Outpost Rush debuted in 2021.
Set high above Aeternum’s mist-covered valleys, the map layers three distinct combat zones on top of one another, forcing squads to balance vertical positioning with old-fashioned brawling for resources.
- Three-tier design: Outer Battlements for long-range duels, an elevated Inner Bailey for mid-range skirmishes, and a claustrophobic Undercroft packed with tunnels and resource mines.
- Central Keep capture point: A towering objective that can swing momentum if held.
- Side gatehouses: Flanking routes that reward coordinated pushes over brute-force sieges.
- Resource pressure: Twin mines and scattered nodes feed upgrades and summon items, pulling teams off the high ground.
- Baroness world boss: A high-risk PvE target in the Undercroft that grants a powerful team-wide buff upon defeat.
- Corrupted portal event: A timed objective offering another comeback mechanic for squads willing to split their forces.
- Balance tweaks: Exposed ramparts and multiple ingress points are meant to prevent turtling and keep skirmishes moving between levels.
Despite a rocky launch, New World's playerbase has stabilized and climbed higher over the last 6 months. Peak concurrent players on Steam went from 8,900 in March to 15,409 last week.
