Activision Blizzard Confirms Another Round Of Layoffs And Closure Of European Publishing Offices
The mass layoffs at Activision Blizzard continues this week with confirmation from the company that they will be closing down their publishing offices in Europe. An undisclosed number of employees from France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, and the UK will be affected by the closures. The move is part of the company’s recent restructuring in response to the current marketing trends in the video game industry.
“Players are increasingly choosing to connect with our games digitally,” an Activision Blizzard spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz. “We have shared plans with our teams in Europe for how we would evolve as an organization, adapting to this change to serve our players and best positioning the region for future growth. We will be taking extensive steps to support all employees and ease the transition for those of our colleagues who might be impacted by these proposed changes.”
European publishing tasks will be consolidated to a hub in the UK following the closures. Live operations and customer support in the continent will not be affected.
Hot on the heels of the reported Activision Blizzard layoffs last week, the company has also confirmed that they will be laying off an undisclosed number of employees from their European offices.
Activision Blizzard has shut down several offices and departments over the last year, both overseas and in the US. The company shuttered their offices in Versailles, France back in October followed by employee cuts in marketing, publishing, and press relations in the Asia-Pacific region the following month. Around 50 staff in the eSports and live events departments in the US were also let go just last week.
