Earlier this week, a Chinese website broke the news that Hasbro is reportedly looking to sell the Dungeons & Dragons IP and that its currently hammering out a deal with Tencent. Wizards of the Coast, however, recently issued a statement to VGC denying the whole thing, saying that not only are they not selling to Tencent but they’re not selling the franchise at all.

For those who don’t know, Wizards of the Coast has been a subsidiary of Hasbro since 1999 and is the division in charge of the entire Dungeons & Dragons franchise.

“We regularly talk to Tencent and enjoy multiple partnerships with them across a number of our IPs. We don’t make a habit of commenting on internet rumors, but to be clear: we are not looking to sell our D&D IP,” the company clarified. “We will keep talking to partners about how we bring the best digital experiences to our fans. We won’t comment any further on speculation or rumors about potential M&A or licensing deals.”

Well, that’s the end of that… or is it? We’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for any new developments, especially since Hasbro has been struggling to make ends meet following poor toy sales since the last quarter of 2022.
