hackmud Looks Like The MMO Hacking Game You've Always Wanted

hackmud

There have been a number of hacking games over the years, Uplink perhaps being the most well-known, but few have been multiplayer and fewer still implement hacking in a way that doesn't obscure most of the actual hacking process. hackmud—stylized "hackmud"—both allows you to play with other players in a massively multiplayer online world and allows you to actually type out your attempts at hacking through the use of an in-game scripting language. It even has an overarching story!

In hackmud, players are tasked with completing various "trials laid out for you by the Multi-User Domain's governing super-intelligence, 'The Trust.'" Along the way, they will slowly build "digital empires" by completing raids, grabbing loot drops, and selling code you've written to other players, all the while crushing others' digital empires and taking their digital goods. The best part? There is no grind. How well you do is determined by how well you understand the game's systems.

Some of the game's other features are as follows.

  • Persistent and constantly-evolving game universe powered by an almost endless stream of user created tools, puzzles, traps and much more
  • A fluid and organic class system determined by the currently loaded upgrades on your system
  • A fully scriptable in-game world with a global player-based economy of code and in-game botting

Having been successfully greenlit earlier this year, hackmud will be launching on Steam on September 22nd. The game will be buy-to-play, costing $13.37 at launch.
