hackmud Hacks Its Way Onto Steam Today

hackmud is one of the more interesting games I've played in recent times. Perhaps best described as "EVE Online meets hacking," the sandbox hacking MMO gives you control over the world around you by allowing you to use a sandboxed version of JavaScript to create scripts for nearly anything. Even before launched, players had created scripts for bounty boards, in-game manuals, and more. Within its sandbox, hackmud dares to give you the freedom that very few games do.
Beyond the content creation aspect of the game, hackmud allows you to hack into other player's systems using real JavaScript commands and a hardline mode that employs a strict two-minute time limit. For those of you that don't know how to program, the game offers a three-hour single-player story in which you are taught some basic commands as you try to prove your sentience to "the governing super-intelligence, 'The Trust,'" by escaping the vLAN, a virtual network that it has trapped you in.
As of today, hackmud is available on Steam for $13.37. For more information about the game, be sure to check out our interview with its creator, Sean Gubelman.
