Back in December, Funcom revealed that they’ve partnered with German developer NUKKLEAR to co-develop their Dune survival game. In their latest press release, Funcom reveals that they’ve enlisted the help of another studio to help bring their vision to life.

Dutch development studio Abstraction will be joining the project and will be integrated into existing development teams in Funcom to work on the game’s engine, gameplay, and other core systems while NUKKLEAR will focus on vehicle-based gameplay. Chinese media giant Tencent will also be backing the ambitious multi-studio project following their acquisition of Funcom last year.

Funcom confirms that the untitled Dune game is still on track for release later this year and will fall under the open-world survival genre, taking inspiration from the studio’s popular survival game Conan Exiles. The game was initially planned to be a full-fledged MMO but has since been downgraded to a multiplayer game instead.
