Fresh Content and Free Trial Coming to Dune: Awakening

Funcom is expanding its survival-crafting sandbox Dune: Awakening next month. The studio has dated Chapter 2, the game’s first free story update, for September 10 and will launch a paid add-on called The Lost Harvest on the same day. Players can sample the desert planet for themselves right now thanks to a limited-time Steam trial running alongside Gamescom.

Dune: Awakening dropped earlier this year, blending the harsh resource management of games like Rust with the political intrigue of Frank Herbert’s universe. The upcoming content marks the first major push to keep its online community engaged—a common strategy in today’s live-service survival games.

Here’s what’s on the way:

  • Chapter 2 (free)—continues the main storyline, adds fresh contracts, dynamic encounters, new items, and a character re-customization option.
  • The Lost Harvest DLC ($12.99)—introduces a self-contained narrative about a crashed spice harvester plus cosmetic bonuses such as the Treadwheel vehicle, new building pieces, armor sets, and weapons.
  • 10-hour Steam trial—available until August 24; progress carries over if you buy the full game.
  • Soundtrack vinyl pre-orders—for fans who want Knut Avenstroup Haugen’s score on wax.

Both Chapter 2 and The Lost Harvest go live on September 10. The DLC is also covered by the existing Season Pass, which is bundled with the Deluxe and Ultimate editions.
