Final Fantasy XI Previews Its First Update Of 2023 Ahead Of Its Arrival Next Week

At the top of the year, Final Fantasy XI Game Director Yoji Fujito revealed that the 20-year old MMORPG’s ongoing Voracious Resurgence storyline is coming to a thrilling end this year. Turns out, Square Enix still has a few more chapters up their sleeve the first of which will drop on January 11th with this year’s first major content update.

Chapter 10 will set the stage for Chapter 11 which will require more time before between the release of Part 1 and Part 2 to make sure that all the scenes and battle play out exactly as planned. “Although we had to push it back by a month, Chapter 10 is coming your way in January,” said Square Enix. “It opens up with us trailing the Destiny Destroyers in Movalpolos. There are plenty of twists and turns to uncover as we delve ever further into the secrets of just what makes Vana’diel the way it is.”

Aside from new story quests, next week’s update will introduce a new monthly Ambuscade rotation featuring the return of moogles and flans. “The flan battle is themed after a Japanese game known as ‘Fukuwari’ and striking a balance between physical and magical damage increases the time that you’re able to spend in the advantageous phase of the battle in which you can deal increased damage to make the fight go quicker,” explained the devs. “Although you can still win without getting the right ‘face,’ doing so will reward you with a special bonus monster as a New Year’s gift from us to you.”

Next week’s update might be a little light compared to previous content drops but we’ll likely see bigger updates later this year as FFXI’s first major story arc reaches its epic conclusion.
