Confusion Delays Thargoid War Defense Progress In Elite Dangerous

Since the Thargoid War began in Elite Dangerous at the end of November, players have been diligently doing their part to help the war effort by fighting back the alien invaders or running rescue missions all across the galaxy. Unfortunately, there seems to have been some confusion with how the war progress is measured which has slowed down the community’s efforts to beat back the Thargoid threat.

Frontier Developments has cleared up the matter in a new forum post which confirms that failure to fill up a system’s war state progress bar to 100% before the weekly reset will revert progress back to 0% regardless of whether it’s at 1% or 99%. While the map UI shows how many weeks an individual system will be in either an Alert or Invasion war state, the UI that displays a system’s actual attack state information and duration isn’t very clear.

Frontier Developments says that its aware of the issue and are now working to address it. “This is our first time simulating a real-time galactic war,” said the studio. “We'll adjust things from the original estimates as time goes.”

The revelation that all the work and credits that they’ve put in to defend systems has been for naught, however, has dampened the community’s motivations to participate in the event, especially since players recently made the effort to marshal their forces and get one system’s state up to 50% before the reset only to have it revert back to 0%.

Other players seem to be taking it all in stride though and have tried to rally players to a single location instead of trying to fight the Thargoid on multiple fronts.
