Chrono Odyssey Closed Beta Set for June as Kakao Games Opens Sign-Ups on Steam

Kakao Games and Chrono Studio have opened sign-ups for the first closed beta of Chrono Odyssey, a next-generation MMORPG aiming to bring time manipulation mechanics and cinematic visuals to the genre. The limited-time PC-only beta is set to run on Steam this June, with sign-ups already live. Over 400,000 players had reportedly registered even before the official announcement, driven by word of mouth.
Chrono Odyssey is scheduled for full release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game emphasizes large-scale exploration, reactive environments, and high-fidelity graphics. The closed beta marks the first opportunity for players to experience the game directly and provide feedback on its systems, world design, and combat mechanics.
- The beta will feature three playable classes: Swordsman, Ranger, and Berserker. These are half of the six planned at full release, with each class offering unique skill trees and playstyles.
- Combat revolves around time-based mechanics like Rewind and Freeze, allowing players to dodge attacks, create combo chains, or tactically reposition in real time.
- The world of Setera is described as fragmented across multiple eras, ranging from medieval settings to post-apocalyptic landscapes. Players explore as members of the Sentinel, fighting divine forces and temporal anomalies.
- The open world will include dynamic terrain shifts, weather effects, and time-based environmental changes.
- Unreal Engine 5 powers instant transitions between locations, cinematic encounters, and environmental effects meant to distinguish it from traditional MMOs.
This is Kakao’s latest high-profile attempt at carving out space in the global MMORPG market following its publishing work on titles like Elyon and ArcheAge. Chrono Studio, meanwhile, is positioning Chrono Odyssey as both a technological and narrative evolution of the genre. Time will tell if it impresses.
The closed beta is PC-only and will run through Steam. Interested players can sign up directly via the Steam page.
