Apparently CCP Games—the development studio responsible for EVE Online—is considering selling itself according to a report in Bloomberg. What a twist, and only a few weeks after the launch of EVE Online's free-to-play tier.

The closely held company’s owners, which include European investor Novator Partners LLP, U.S. investment fund General Catalyst Partners LLC and venture capitalist New Enterprise Associates Inc., are discussing whether or not to proceed with a sale, the people said, asking not to be identified because the deliberations are private. A sale of CCP could value the business at as much as 900 million euros ($955 million), the people said. -Bloomberg

Who would buy? Nobody knows. I always put my money on Tencent but there's been no murmurs from the Chinese conglomerate.

What would a buyout mean for CCP Games' games? Probably not much. As with most acquisitions and mergers in the industry, games themselves are left alone. After all, they are the typically the reason someone is interested in buying in the first place.
