Andrew Gower’s Crafting-Heavy MMORPG Brighter Shores Is Launching In Q3 2024

Jagex co-founder Andrew Gower’s studio, Fen Research, is currently working on a new point-and-click free-to-play MMORPG called Brighter Shores that’s set to launch in the third quarter of this year.
The game gives off a distinctly RuneScape-y vibe and will feature three playable classes that deviate from the standard RPG tropes: the Cryoknight, Guardian, and Hammermage. It’s slim pickings compared to other MMORPGs but it’s nine professions might make up for it along with the promise of “many more” to come.
“Brighter Shores is an all new adventure from award winning MMORPG designer Andrew Gower,” reads the game’s Steam description. “It is an enchanting point-and-click style RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay, set in a land of magic and mysteries, with a huge number of professions to try, and something new to find around every corner.”
Brighter Shores also promises a continually expanding story with episodic content that will introduce new maps, quests, and professions. Its focus seems to be mainly on crafting and professions though, likely due to RuneScape’s influence.
Players will also have the option to purchase a premium pass which will grant them access to more areas, exclusive character names, and player trading. Sounds a bit extreme, but we’ll see how it fares in practice when Brighter Shores launches later this year.
