The blood-soaked battle royale genre is claiming another victim as Bloodhunt, Sharkmob’s vampire-themed entry into the genre, enters maintenance mode.

“Ever since launch, we have been on a journey to excite and delight our players, however, while we have an amazing and very engaged community, we haven’t been able to reach the critical mass needed to sustain development,” Sharkmob revealed. ”This has led us to the decision to stop further development of Bloodhunt.”

While development may have come to a halt, the servers will remain active as long as there's a player base. In an effort to keep things fresh, players will have a say in unlocking new content through an in-game voting system. Additionally, earning in-game tokens will become easier, though token purchases are set to be disabled later this month.

Bloodhunt entered early access on PC in September 2021 but was pulled back for a revamp just one month after it launched. It returned in April 2022, showing promise in the crowded battle royale space. Yet, it seems the game failed to captivate players for the long haul, leading to its current state of maintenance mode. It's a reminder that the battle royale landscape can be unforgiving, requiring constant innovation to keep players engaged.

While Bloodhunt may not have achieved the longevity it hoped for, the game's servers will still provide a playground for those who remain loyal. As Sharkmob focuses on other projects, only time will tell if this blood-soaked battle royale will rise from its slumber or fade into the shadows for good.
