Archeage Did Not Admit It's P2W On Facebook

Ah yes, do you smell that? It's the smell of people playing into their biases and then asking "why can't people think rationally?" The latest Archeage news accuses the game of admitting its pay-to-win through a reply made on Facebook.

Let's gander at what was written:

The social media representative is addressing concerns about the Revelation Pack, a pre-sale pack for the upcoming update launching on December 10th. He asserts "this pack is for Legacy Servers only." Then makes the innocuous, but in hindsight foolish, statement that Fresh Start servers will have their own packs that avoid power or P2W. Quick to judgment, some people interpreted this to mean that the rep implied Archeage Legacy servers are P2W.

But the phrase "... not power or P2W" was used to negate the accusation of P2W in general. It has no direct reference to any of Archeage's servers, i.e. a buffer statement—a statement that backfired. Get out your prepositional logic textbook and map the phrase. It doesn't indicate anything.

The content manager for Archeage's Facebook should have avoided the word "P2W" altogether and just used "power" or "advantage." If he had done so I imagine I would not have to write this refutation.  I'm not saying the game wont suffer from questionable cash shop practices with the future update—because I have no idea what it's going to look like until it's released—but this Facebook post tells us nothing about the future state of the game.

Why did this news blow up? Because some people can't help but relish in bad news. Leave it to the MMORPG community to bang their pitchforks against the walls of their echo chamber.
