Aliens: Fireteam Elite gets a new Point Defense game mode, new weapons, and a host of other new content as Season 2 officially starts in the sci-fi co-op shooter.

In Point Defense, players must work together to hold, protect, and repair three strategic points on the map against wave after wave of Xenomorphs. New rewards are up for grabs to players who complete the new game mode at various difficulties.

Season 2 also brings the new Lifetime Stats feature for those who want to keep track of their progress, along with new weapons, eight new Challenge Cards, and random sentinel patrols. Sidearm damage has also been increased and players can now get knocked over when another player walks into them, which is probably the last thing that you’d want to happen when facing swarms of angry spitting aliens.

Meanwhile, Aliens: Fireteam Elite has seen a slight resurgence in its playerbase with the start of the new season, peaking at 1,112 players last night according to data from SteamDB. It’s a far cry from the 15,000 concurrent players that the game logged at launch but it’s still an improvement over the 300 – 400 player average recorded over the last few months.
