Superhero MMO City of Titans released an image on their Facebook pointing to a Fall 2018 launch. The simple graphic features the game's logo and "coming Fall 2018." No speculation needed there.
City of Titans is a KickStarter backed project, having raised over $678,000, and is touted as the spiritual successor to the defunct City of Heroes.
City of Titans is set in a world where there is always hope, even in the darkest of times. The tradition of brightly colored costumes, brilliant heroics, and daring struggles to stand against the shadows cast during times of darkness and corruption. New heroes, your heroes, rise to make their mark on the world while their villainous counterparts lurk in the corners of alleys, behind governments, and even in the boardrooms of the wealthiest corporations. Humanity honors the fallen, and takes inspiration from the selfless sacrifices of heroes who have gone before.
Fall 2018 is quite a ways off, and the estimate date feels a bit presumptuous at this time—it reminds me of NetEase Games' promise to launch War Rage within the next 18 months. It's a bit of a silly thing to do; you're telling me your logistical teams are prudent enough to make such a prediction? Why not just wait until the product is closer to completion instead of making wild guesses.
From what I can see on developer Missing Worlds Media's YouTube page, development still has a ways to go. But I wish the team the best of luck and hope to see the game launch in Fall 2018.
As part of its continued effort to showcase all of Revelation Online's classes, My.com has released a new trailer showing off the Swordmage and a detailed rundown of the class' capabilities. This odd class wields a falchion, but doesn't use it to slice and dice opponents. Instead, it uses its falchion to channel ranged spells. The class is particularly adept at casting area of effect attacks, but also features high mobility and an assortment of crowd control abilities. Despite being somewhat of a glass cannon, My.com rates the class highly in PvE and PvP, regardless of whether you are playing alone or in a party.
As an added note, My.com has revealed that the Swordmage was chosen by 19% of players during the first Closed Beta.
MMOs.com Podcast - Episode 80: Player Shops, BDO, Lawbreakers, & More
MMOs.com Podcast Episode 80 - Omer (@remotayx), Erhan (Ehaltay), Matt (@Mattchuranu), Sean (@sean_sulliva), and Shurelya (@Shureria).
This is episode eighty of the MMOs.com Podcast and we look at the most recent news and happenings in the MMO and gaming world. We started off with the weekly raid as usual which was "What Ever Happened to Play Shops in MMORPGs?" We then discussed megaservers in Black Desert Online and then talked a bit about Lineage Eternal. There's a chance that the English version of Lineage Eternal won't be too far off, as some of the game has already been translated to English (here's to hoping that worldwide simultaneous release thing from 2 years ago is still a go!). We talked a bit about Lawbreakers too and whether the game has a chance of making it as a buy to play title. As always, we got a bit distracted and jumped around from topic to topic. A bit more so this week than usual, as we ran a bit longer than usual.
Ragnarok Online Mobile is launching its Open Beta on March 01, 2017, but the game will still be in Chinese. That doesn't mean you can't play. It'll just be a struggle if you can't read the language. But there wont be an IP block, as far as we know. I might check it out myself, if I'm able to sign-up for Open Beta through the Ragnarok Online Mobile Website.
So far there's been no mention of an English release. We may have to rely on passionate fans to cook up a translation patch sometime in the future. Until then, we'll be stuck deciphering characters to get a taste of Ragnarok Online Mobile.
Although we're a bit late to report this, Pangya, the anime inspired golfing MMO, is set to shut down on December 12, 2016. The game's publisher, GameRage, said:
"It is with our heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Pangya (pangya.gamerage.com).
Pangya will be officially closed on December 12, 2016 and will remain accessible until that date.
We thank you for your support over the years and countless memorable experiences on Pangya."
Pangya had a long run, originally launching back in 2005 as Albatross18 through OGplanet until 2009 when SG Interactive took control of the game and renamed it Pangya. Despite never enjoying runaway success, Pangya ran for 11 years, making it one of the longest running free to play games. Having first played Pangya back in 2006, it's sad to see the game go. But alas, the cycle of new games replacing the old continues. It seems for every game that ends up shutting down, 2 more takes its place.
Those looking for another free to play golfing game can check out the long running Shot Online from GamesCampus (Actually their only game now) or the newer Winning Putt (now available on Steam). There's also Eagle: Fantasy Golf for mobile for those interested.
The Thai version of the game (linked here) seems to be unaffected by the global version's shutdown.
Immersed Games is aiming to do something different with Tyto Online. Rather than provide a stereotypical MMORPG experience, the company hopes to help players learn middle and high school level science through an engaging online gaming experience. In going with its previous game, Tyto Ecology, the current focus is on ecology, but the goal is to expand into many other fields in the future.
The game world is one in which the Earth is uninhabitable. You play as an evacuee who is beginning life on the planet Ovo and studying at Tyto Academy.
The game went live on Steam Early Access yesterday. Immersed Games wants to provide an emergent sandbox where players can learn different scientific concepts, but at present, it contains a mere three hours or so of gameplay content, in addition to several Biodomes and customizable apartments. Features that may be added in the future include a player-run economy that helps teach players about entrepreneurship and the ability to create your own Biodome in a manner that is similar to Tyto Ecology.
Should you be interested in supporting Tyto Online, it is available now on Steam Early Access for $24.99, temporarily discounted to $19.99 for the week of release. At launch, the game will require a monthly fee to play. Everyone that buys into Early Access will be given three months of subscription time at launch.

Bossa Studios' original plan was to launch Worlds Adrift "at the end of 2016." However, the company does not want to release a game that is not ready and Worlds Adrift needs just a bit more time in development before it is ready for launch. Thus, its release date has officially been pushed back to Q1 2017.
New features for Alpha 5, which is "imminent," were also announced. Players will finally be able to specialize their characters by finding "Saborian databanks" that are scattered around the game world and using the Knowledge found within them. "Lootable containers" can also be found in various places around the game world. The shipyard has been revamped, now allowing players to build their ship's frame from the ground up. Sails can now be crafted and attached directly to the deck of the ship. Ranged combat has been overhauled and pistols have been introduced as a replacement for the game's crossbows. And finally, whereas you could previously only play as a female character, you can now play as a male character.
A mobile MMORPG titled The Tale of Lost City recently launched in Hong Kong and I can't help but feel nostalgia for Ragnarok Online after watching gameplay footage, thanks to MMOCulture.
The gameplay below instantly calls to mind riding a Peco Peco and brandishing a spear in RO. But don't get me wrong. The Tale of Lost City is certainly its own game, only able to draw comparison superficially.
It appears that players crawl through linear dunegons, slaying monsters, and gearing up before ascending to the next class and repeating the process. And if you feel like staring out the bus window you can turn on automated combat.
I have my doubts this one will head Westward. But if you click around on the website, and get lucky, you should be able to play—barring you speak the language.
