XCOM 2 Will Have Co-Op Mod Support

Sequel to the Hit Strategy Game XCOM: Enemy Unknown, XCOM 2, have mentioned in a Q&A panel that the game will have extensive Mod support. Most notably of the functions present is the ability to provide Co-Op gameplay if players are "able to provide their own servers".

According to lead designer, Jake Solomon, XCOM 2 will have real Mod Support unlike the last incarnation and players will have access to the same tools that the developers had while making the game. This includes an editor and around 50gb of game assets to play with.

Several mods to the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown did exist such as the Warspace Extension and the popular Long War mods, which have drastically changed the game. Even Jake Solomon himself stated that Long War, "Takes XCOM to a new level." Having an editor and access to assets will help modders to focus more on content rather than having to rework an entire game not meant for modding.

In addition, the news leads me to speculate that perhaps the new XCOM game might indeed have co-op gameplay either in place of or along with the multiplayer versus mode due to their answer of it being possible if "players are able to provide their own servers". Could this perhaps be a distraction for a future reveal of  the highly requested co-op content?

XCOM 2 releases worldwide on February 5th of next year and you can check out the official website here.
