World Of Warcraft Classic Hit By DDOS Attacks Over The Weekend, Rolls Out Layer-Hopping Exploit Fix

world of warcraft legion bannerWorld of Warcraft Classic was hit by a series of DDOS attacks over the weekend resulting in server interruptions, loss of services, and lag and adding to their already mounting problems of overpopulation and long queue times. Blizzard Entertainment asks players to be patient as they continually work to address the problem.

“It is our top priority to resolve any issues that prevent players from being able to smoothly play World of Warcraft. However, it is the nature of DDoS attacks that players may experience the game becoming unavailable. If you are disconnected or have issues logging in, please be patient and wait a few minutes before trying again.”

The studio has also recently rolled out a hotfix that should solve layer-hopping exploits that have been plaguing the game. The hotfix prevents excessive layer hopping with a cooldown that increases when switching layers within a short length of time.

“[. . .] Each time a player moves to a new layer, there will be an increasing amount of time before that player can move to another layer,” explains Blizzard. “If a player moves between layers multiple times over a short timeframe, the cooldown can increase to a duration of several minutes (or longer) before they can change layers again. The cooldown will then decrease over time for players who don’t change layers. This hotfix will become active in other regions following their next realm restarts.”
