White House Says Executive Order Will Not Affect Other Tencent Holdings

Yesterday, US President Donald Trump signed a broadly-worded executive order banning WeChat and any transactions with Tencent in the US. The gaming community didn’t take the news lightly considering that the Chinese tech giant owns or has stakes in several big-name development studios.

A White House official, however, clarified through the LA Times that the executive order only applies to WeChat and does not include any of Tencent’s other holdings and subsidiaries. Meanwhile, Tencent says that they are reviewing the newly-signed EO to get a better understanding of what it entails for the company.
