WEMADE Announces Steam Playtest for New Tactical FPS Black Vultures: Prey of Greed July 25-28

WEMADE, a South Korean game developer and publisher, is preparing to launch a public playtest for its latest tactical first-person shooter, Black Vultures: Prey of Greed. Developed by THISMEANSWAR, a WEMADE studio, the game will be available for hands-on testing via Steam from July 25 to July 28, specifically targeting players in North and South America.

This playtest marks the first time the public will be able to try out Black Vultures and comes after an April focus group test that led to several key gameplay improvements. The development team has focused on refining combat balance, control systems, and the overall feel of the game based on early player feedback. Players interested in participating can request access through the game’s official Steam page, with additional opportunities available through the official Discord server.

To give potential testers a sense of what to expect, two trailers have been released. One showcases core gameplay, while the other provides a behind-the-scenes look at the game’s AI-powered combat system, which was developed in collaboration with NVIDIA.

Black Vultures: Prey of Greed positions itself in the tactical FPS genre, placing players in a hostile, resource-scarce warzone. The game’s focus is on decision-making under pressure, with every mission requiring players to weigh risks and rewards while competing against rival squads. Here’s a quick overview of the main gameplay features:

  • Three-Faction Conflict: Compete against two other squads with no alliances, leading to unpredictable engagements and shifting tactics.
  • Life Ticket System: Each team shares a pool of respawns. Once the pool is depleted, the stakes rise as each player’s survival becomes critical.
  • Team-Based Looting: Loot is pooled in a shared squad inventory and only becomes available after successful extraction, making coordination essential.

Black Vultures: Prey of Greed aims to carve out a space in the increasingly crowded tactical shooter market, drawing on elements seen in games like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown, where risk-versus-reward and squad tactics are at the forefront. WEMADE’s investment in AI-driven combat and unique team mechanics could set it apart as it moves closer to a wider release. Time will tell if the AI mechanics are a gimmick or something interesting.
