Valheim Has Sold Over 5 Million Copies, Dedicated Server Update Causes Issues
It seems as if Valheim has gained much favor with Odin and the gaming community with over 5 million copies sold in just one month since the co-op survival game launched on Steam. In keeping with tradition, developer Iron Gate has revealed a handful of pertinent game statistics.
During the little time you’ve spent in Valheim, all five million of you managed to:
- Spend more than 15,000 years playing Valheim
- Watch more than 35 million hours of gameplay Twitch
- Pushed us to number 39 in the best user reviewed games on Steam of all time
- Made our five-person strong team excited to come to work (virtually) each and every single day (that’s one person per million sales, by the way!)
Meanwhile, the team has just patched in Version 0.147.3 which introduced major changes to how the players connect to dedicated servers with the goal of improving server latency. Dedicated servers now use Direct IP instead of the Steam Datagram Relay, or SDR. SDR is still in place for community servers and the developers are hard at work ironing out the recently-reported kinks in the system.
Unfortunately, the latest patch has resulted in timeouts and disconnection problems for numerous players connecting to dedicated servers although it’s still unclear how widespread the issue is.
Aside from improvements to dedicated servers, Version 0.147.3 also comes with several fixes and improvements, including a fix for network players flying through the air when entering and exiting portals and dungeons. Wolf pro-creation has also been reduced so you should be seeing slightly less of them when journeying through the Tenth World.
The full patch notes can be found on the Valheim Steam Community Page.
