After its meteoric rise to fame earlier this summer, V Rising’s popularity is slowly fizzling away from a 24-hour peak of 150,000 concurrent players at launch to an average daily peak concurrency of just around 5,000 players. Its waning popularity, however, won’t be helped by the fact that its first major content update has just been pushed back to next year due to the inherent complexity of the game.

“We’ve realized we’ll have to do some serious, deep systemic work on the game,” said developer Stunlock Studios in its latest dev update. “V Rising is a complex project, and every added feature affects other loops of the game; significant changes require re-work and fixes across the board. While we were initially hoping to bring our first content update this year, we recognize that trying to push out content on old and outdated systems in the middle of a rework will only serve to slow down production time overall.”

The massive update will apparently touch on almost all aspects of the vampire-themed survival MMORPG. It will include a world expansion which will include the addition of new biomes, new enemies, new weapons and abilities, fishing, as well as new territories to build castles on. The update will also improve existing systems such as castles, servants, building costs, and PvP, along with the addition of controller support and other quality of life improvements.

“Focusing on massive ‘expansion-ish’ patches gives the marketing team more time to build strong campaigns to ensure that everyone will hear about the next update both before and when it lands,” the studio said. Hopefully, there’ll be enough players around to actually enjoy the new content and improvements given how far its player count has fallen over the past few months.
