Now that we’re way past the zombie survival stage (or are we?), vampires seem to be the next big thing in the survival genre. Mix it up by making the main character vampires instead of fighting them off and you’ve apparently got a very popular game, as is the case with Stunlock Studio’s recently-released vampire-themed survival MMOPRG, V Rising.

The Swedish development studio reports that the game has sold over 500,000 copies just three days after it’s Early Access launch on Steam. SteamDB shows a 24-hour and all-time peak player concurrency of 130,626 players, catapulting the vampire MMO to the eighth spot of Steam’s Most Played Games list. It’s also accrued “Mostly Positive” reviews on Steam although there has been at least one complaint of griefing, which is to be expected in a survival game with basically no PvP rules whatsoever.

Looks like another Valheim in the making, but we’ll find out if the game has what it takes once the launch hype has died down.
