Ultra Mega Cats Is A ‘Cat-Tastic’ Roguelike Shooter Coming To Steam Early Access Soon

If turtles can become ninjas, then it stands to reason that cats can do so as well. If ninja cats sounds like your cup of tea, then you might want to keep an eye out for Polish indie studio Fallen Leaf’s upcoming co-op roguelike, Ultra Mega Cats. Its title isn’t the only thing about the game that seems to have been lifted straight out of a 90s Saturday morning cartoon, as its storyline also follows the same theme with a whole lot of cat puns.
“Imagine living in a flipped world ruled by rodents and feathered forces. You're one of the last cats standing – disgraced, brainwashed, and trained to serve your former prey as a killing machine. But that still isn’t enough to wipe out purr catness? Awaken your inner predator. It's time to restore balance to this world!”
Ultra Mega Cats promises a fast-paced third-person roguelike experience where you control one of five Mega Cats, each with their own distinct playstyles and personalities. You’ll fight across a series of random arenas where you’ll go up against villainous birds, rodents, reptiles, and wolves, either solo or with up to three of your buddies.
The arenas themselves offer their own challenges with dynamic environments and constantly changing layouts that will require you to make full use of your “cat-tastic” skills and dexterity which can be further upgraded with 50 different M.O.D.S. exclusive to your chosen feline freedom fighter.
“[…] Claw through randomly generated rooms across corporate prisons to free yourself and the three Ancient feline gods,” reads the official press release. “With an emphasis on fast-paced action, Ultra Mega Cats features intense, bombastic gameplay, allowing you to play how you want – and flex those catlike reflexes– thanks to the diverse cast of characters.”
Ultra Mega Cats is set to launch into Steam Early Access soon with two-player co-op, which will later be expanded to four players, and two of the five planned characters: the ninja-like Kagero and the tanky mecha-cat known as BBKat. You can check out the latter’s backstory in the game’s first official trailer below.
