Ubisoft Mainz Wants To Keep Anno 2070’s Online Functionality Alive

This past weekend, Ubisoft announced that it was ending online support for some of its older games, including several Assassin’s Creed titles and the city-building sim Anno 2070 among others. It looks like there’s some internal disagreement with the latter though as the game’s German developer, Ubisoft Mainz, has decided to try keep the lights on themselves.

“After an initial investigation, we have decided to dedicate some of our development resources to work on upgrading Anno 2070’s aged online services infrastructure to a new system, so that these features can continue to be used past the mentioned date,” said the studio. “However, we cannot yet guarantee that we’ll be able to successfully upgrade/replace the old services as we’d like to.”

While the studio doesn’t seem to be promising anything, there’s still a good chance that they can keep the game running for those who want to keep playing. The game may be a decade old but that’s relatively young for a strategy game since most games in the genre, like StarCraft 2 and even StarCraft: Brood War, continue to have a dedicated playerbase many years after its release.

For the time being, players will still be able to enjoy Anno 2070’s online features until September 1st, and hopefully well after then.
