While Valve has a strict policy against blockchain and play-to-earn games on Steam, Epic Games has no qualms about letting them in and its even giving them money. The American video game developer and publisher recently awarded blockchain racing game Torque Drift 2 with additional funding as part of its Epic MegaGrants program which could range anywhere from $5000 to $500,000.

Torque Drift 2 is currently in-development by Australian developer Grease Monkey Games, a subsidiary of blockchain company Animoca Brands, and is expected for release sometime in 2024. The game’s Tuning Garage will be opening its doors earlier in the third quarter of 2023, which will allow players to pre-customize their rides using NFT-minted parts that are now available for purchase.

“The game represents the next generation of motorsports products leveraging blockchain technology, where fully functional and playable NFTs are a core feature used to deliver true digital ownership of game assets to players,” reads the official press release.

Epic Games launched the Epic MegaGrants program in 2019 to help accelerate the development of noteworthy video games and other media projects built using the company’s Unreal Engine, as well those that helped improve the open source 3D ecosystem.
