The SteamWorld Series Transitions To 3D Co-op In SteamWorld Headhunter

SteamWorld, a traditionally single-player game, will be offering a 3D co-op experience in the franchise’s next installment, SteamWorld Headhunters. Swedish developer Image & Form describes the upcoming game as “a stylised and colourful, third-person co-op action adventure with a head-popping twist.”
The franchise has jumped around from one genre to another with each new release, from tower defense to turn-based tactics to 2D platformer. SteamWorld Headhunter will be the game’s first foray into the 3D multiplayer genre.
“The robot setting opens up all kinds of possibilities,” Image & Form Studio Head Brjann Sigurgeirsson told PCGamer back in 2017. “It may seem as if establishing your own world, character gallery or setting and using that over and over again would restrict you, but it's the other way around: it gives you the freedom to experiment with every other parameter. If you yourself know how your world and your characters work, you don't have to think or worry about that aspect too much. And if people are familiar with your idea and have been 'taught' what to expect, they can be surprised by all the other things you've thought up.”
The studio has yet to announce a release date for the upcoming game. In the meantime, SteamWorld Dig 2 is free on Steam for a limited time if you want to get a feel for the game’s colorful universe.
