The Day Before Player Numbers Take A Huge Hit Just Three Days After Launch

The Day Before’s popularity has quickly fizzled out as the survival horror shooter sees a huge drop in its playerbase just three days after its early access launch.

The game’s playerbase wasn’t that big to start with, peaking at 38,104 players the hour of its launch. It all went downhill from there as its concurrency numbers dropped to less than 10,000 players in the span of 12 hours. SteamDB reports just over 2,600 players online as of this writing.

I can’t say I’m surprised, considering that it’s been bombarded with negative reviews on Steam since it came out. Players are complaining about virtually every aspect of the game, noting its extremely unpolished state, lag, optimization issues, and the general lack of meaningful content and things to do aside from supply runs and the occasional fight against zombies or players. For a zombie survival game, there’s apparently very few zombies to be found in the open world.

The game is still in early access though and developer Fntastic is scrambling to give players what they want, starting with yesterday’s patch which increased the zombie population and addressed various server and AI issues.

We can probably expect more of the same updates over the next few weeks or months as Fntastic hunkers down for what will undoubtedly be a very rough development journey.
