TERA Autumn Producer Letter Talks Server Merges And Guild Battles

In a new TERA Producer Letter, Producer Treeshark discusses what's in store for TERA in the near future. In the short term, the servers Highwatch, Lake of Tears, and Valley of Titans will be merged into a single server on September 7th. The new server will be a "PvP 65" server, which will allow world PvP, but only players at max level will be able to take part in it. Those that don't want to take part in PvP at all will be allowed to transfer to the Ascension Valley server for free between September 9th and September 13th.

The server merges will be followed by the introduction Guild Battles and changes to guilds. When the changes are introduced, players will no longer level their guilds by using Catharnach Awards. Instead, they will be required to do Guild Missions. Guild Missions will award experience that is used to level guilds. As guilds level, they will be able to purchase Guild Skills that increase their base stats, movement speed, and mount speed. It is noted that there will also be systems in place that keep smaller guilds from being disadvantaged by their member count and that allow weekly payouts of gold to guild members.

Guild Battles will work similarly Black Desert Online. Guilds can set up towers anywhere in Velika and, once a week, they must defend these towers from other guilds. The guild that owns the last tower standing at the end of the battle will be awarded "all the taxes that have accumulated during that week."

New world BAMs, flying dragon mounts, some UI tweaks, and "massive changes to the sorcerer" are also planned. Priests and Mystics can also look forward to "some minor changes." Unfortunately, none of these features have any sort of timeline as of yet.

Matt's Take:

Server merges are rarely a good sign, but it can at least be said that the team at En Masse is doing something interesting with the merges by introducing the first "PvP 65" server. The guild changes concern me a bit, as they will make the guild system nearly identical to that of Black Desert Online—right down to the Guild Skills. I imagine changes will be made to accommodate TERA specifically, but the system made being in a guild tedious in Black Desert Online and it's difficult to believe that it will be all that much better in TERA. Regardless, it's nice to see that there's quite a bit in store for TERA and I think we can all agree that flying dragon mounts are awesome.
