Super Mario Bros. Wonder Features Local And Online Co-op Play With Up To Four Players
Everybody’s favorite Italian plumbers are back with their friends to back them up as Super Mario Bros. Wonder officially launches on Nintendo Switch. While co-op adventuring isn’t exactly the first thing that comes to mind when you hear Super Mario, the latest game in the franchise is breaking the mold with the addition of local and online multiplayer features.
Like most Super Mario games, the recently released Super Mario Bros. Wonder gives players the choice to play as one of several different characters from the iconic franchise as they make their way through the platforming game. This time, however, up to four players will be able to enter the same level and work together to reach the end. Note that up to 12 players can join a co-op room but only four will be allowed to be on the same level.
“You can play online with up to 12 friends in a Co-Op Room, with up to 4 players on a single course. Help each other out or see who can finish first!”
You’ll be able to share power-ups, give other players piggy-back rides if they’re playing as Yoshi, and come to each other’s rescue should one of them get knocked out. You’ll also be able to see live shadows of other players in the room and will be able to interact with them in real time through what Nintendo callas a “subtle connection”.
In addition to the new co-op multiplayer features, Super Mario Bros. Wonder also boasts new power-ups and the new Wonder Flower item that drastically transforms levels in weird Super Mario fashion. The overview trailer below should give you a good idea of what to expect.
Super Mario Bros. is now available digitally on the Nintendo Switch with a $59.99 price tag. Physical copies are also available at selected retailers in the United States and Canada.
