Starfield took the video game community by storm when it launched last month and secured the title of best-selling game in the US for September 2023, according to consumer behavior analysis company Circana.

It’s worth noting that the sci-fi game was available on Xbox Game Pass from day one and Circana’s report didn’t take into account those who got access to the game via the streaming service since they technically didn’t buy a copy.

Starfield was also September 2023’s best-selling game in the US on PlayStation, securing the number two spot on PC and Xbox, and placing third on Nintendo Switch. It’s currently the seventh best-selling game of 2023, with Mortal Kombat 1 following closely at eighth place.

Mortal Kombat 1, which launched two weeks after Starfield, took the number two spot on Circana’s best-selling games last month with EA Sports FC 24 coming in at number three and Madden NFL 24 getting bumped down from number one to number four.

For MMO fans, Hogwarts Legacy dropped down from the number five spot in August to number nine last month in the US but remains the best-selling game globally for 2023.

Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 continues to be the best-selling platform with Xbox Series X|S remaining solidly in second place. Circana also reports that US gamers spent a total of $4.5 billion last month, a 10% increase over the same period last year.
