WW2 MilSim Post Scriptum Has Been Acquired By Squad Developer Offworld Industries
Squad developer Offworld Industries has acquired Post Scriptum, a World War II tactical first-person shooter from Periscope Games that launched in 2018. It’s now been renamed to Squad 44 to better reflect Offworld Industries’ vision from the game, and frankly because it just makes more sense for a squad-based FPS set in 1944.
“Team up and join the frontline in Squad 44, the most authentic tactical WW2 shooter. Experience ruthless realism with an immense arsenal of faithfully recreated weapons and vehicles across massive WW2 battlefields.”
Offworld Industries also marked the acquisition with a huge update for the game that introduced Greek and Aussie factions, the new Battle of Rethymno map, several new weapons, and a host of balance adjustments. The game is also enjoying its highest player count in two years, likely due to buzz surrounding its acquisition and the new update.
We’d also like to point out that unlike other live service games, Squad 44 has no cash shop, no battle pass, and no paid DLCs. You’ll get new content and updates for free just for the buy-in price of $29.99 on Steam, although there’s no telling whether that might change in the future.
When Squad first came out in 2015, Offworld promised that it wouldn’t be releasing paid DLCs for the first-person military simulator. They eventually went back on their word when they introduced paid cosmetics back in January to help fund the game’s continued development.
As for Periscope Games, it appears as if the studio has shut down and Offworld has appointed a team of Post Scriptum modders called Mercury Arts to take charge of Squad 44 going forward.
