Quite a lot of studios are looking to take advantage of the holiday season to get testers into their respective games. One such studio is Digital Extremes, who’ll be running a “very very closed” pre-alpha test for Soulframe in December to gather data and feedback on an extremely early build of the Warframe-like multiplayer action RPG.

The game was first announced during TennoCon 2022, promising a much slower combat and gameplay experience in a medieval fantasy setting, as opposed to Warframe’s acrobatic space ninja sci-fi theme.

“With Soulframe’s worldbuilding and thematic elements, we are really looking to go back to our childhood favorites and pull inspiration from the elaborate fantasy worlds that we fell in love with growing up,” the studio said. “For early fans of Digital Extremes, the path to release will be a familiar one: it will be a transparent, collaborative and iterative process that is shaped by the passion of players and [Digital Extremes].

On the subject of transparency, the studio’s animation team admits that Soulframe’s slower pace has forced them to rethink their approach since it will be more animation driven than its sci-fi counterpart. In line with the new approach, they’ve created a nifty motion-matching animation tool that allows for smoother character movements. They also teased upcoming previews of new bosses coming soon.
