Silicon Studio Gives Us A Look At Black Desert Online's Remastered Graphics

You may remember that Black Desert Online developer Pearl Abyss revealed in an interview from this past January that it planned to remaster the game's graphics to bring them more in line with titles that are currently being released. At the time, it was also revealed that the company would be working with YEBIS developer Silicon Studio on the remaster.

At GDC 2017, Silicon Studio gave us our first look at some of the post-processing effects that might be included in the remaster. You can see depth of field, godrays, and several other effects on display in the video, conveniently shown in before and after format.

Silicon Studio CEO Takehiko Terada had the following to say about the announcement.

I thought that of Black Desert Online’s realistic graphics were suitable to demonstrate the cutting edge technology of YEBIS. We are pleased with the response of the audience as expected, and we look forward to cooperating with Pearl Abyss in the future.

Pearl Abyss Programming Division Team Leader Choi Chang-ae also provided a statement.

This video is only a small part of what we’re working on. We are constantly trying our best to provide users with a better visual experience in keeping with the evolution of hardware. Players will be able to venture through Black Desert with enhanced graphics later this year.

I'm not entirely sold on the depth of field quite yet, as it is rather strong, but it seems that the game is becoming more graphically impressive overall and I look forward to seeing more of the remaster.
