Sea Of Thieves Delays Season 7 And Captaincy And Extends Current Season

Sea of Thieves players who’ve been waiting on the chance to finally, and officially, call themselves Captains will have to wait a little while longer as Rare pushes back the release of Season 7 and its accompanying update. The big Captaincy update was initially scheduled to launch on July 21st but has now been moved to August.
“We believe Captaincy will transform the experience of playing Sea of Thieves, adding deeper meaning and history to every session and every encounter out on the seas, along with the much-requested ability to own and finally name your ship,” said Rare. “However, with such a fundamental update to the game, there is a lot of hidden work to be done in the background.”
“As we started getting closer to the originally stated release date, it became apparent that things were coming in hotter than we liked and there was a real risk of not delivering to the quality and polish we expect, as well as putting undue pressure across the team to get it all over the line,” the studio added. “Subsequently, we have made the decision to shift the release date back slightly to August 4th.”
As a result of the delay, Season 6 has been extended until Season 7’s launch, making it the pirate MMORPG’s longest season to date. In the meantime, players can earn double gold and reputation during this weekend’s Gold & Glory event that celebrates the game’s 30 million player milestone.
