Sea Of Thieves Unveils New Adventure And Addresses Milestones Feedback
Sea of Thieves will be getting a new limited-time Adventure this week called A Hunter’s Cry with a new trailer now available ahead of its release.
The new Adventure arrives on September 1st and will pick up where the current story arc left off. June’s The Forsaken Hunter Adventure saw the main character Merrick get killed by a masked assassin and is now a ghost that’s being tormented by the same assassin to get him to reveal his secrets. It’s up to you to save him, thwart the masked assassin’s nefarious plans, and take the fight to the Dark Brethren.
Meanwhile, Rare has addressed the community’s concerns over the new Milestones system, explaining why the design philosophy behind the new system and why no Milestones will be awarded retroactively. According to the studio, the new Milestones system was designed to be a progression system that would allow players to choose their own paths and have more control over their individual journeys in the pirate-themed MMORPG.
The system is also tied in with the new Captaincy feature and will specifically reward Milestones based on the actions completed by a player on board a captained ship. Progress doesn’t count when aboard a non-captained ship. As such, it would go against the intended design to award Milestones for previously completed tasks. The team has also implemented a huge number of new stats as part of the new Captaincy and Milestones systems and have only started tracking stats following their release.
“We have not had the ability to track many of these actions until now, so it would have been impossible to retroactively award everything,” Rare explained. “The fairest and most consistent approach was to have no Milestones be retroactive, rather than having a mix of retroactive and newly tracked stats.”
However, the team has acknowledged feedback that some of the requirements were a bit too hard to complete and have adjusted them accordingly.
