Remedy Entertainment And Tencent Are Working On F2P Co-op PvE Shooter Codenamed Vanguard

Max Payne creator Remedy Entertainment has partnered with Chinese gaming company Tencent on a new free-to-play co-op PvE shooter codenamed Vanguard. According to the official announcement, the game is an original Remedy IP and will be developed using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine for PC and consoles.
Remedy will be responsible for developing the game and publishing it globally while Tencent will be handling publishing and localization in selected Asian regions. Tencent has also secured rights to develop and publish a mobile version of the upcoming game.
“Vanguard marks Remedy’s first entry into Games-as-a-Service business model, executed by our top tier team of free-to-play experts,” said Remedy CEO Tero Virtala. “We are building something new and exciting for co-operative multiplayer space, on top of Remedy’s strengths. Expanding our capabilities to take on publishing responsibilities is the next step in the development of our company.”
“We are excited for this long-term partnership with Tencent and with confidence can say that it is an excellent fit in supporting Vanguard’s ambitious plans. Vanguard is a global opportunity, and Tencent can support Remedy internationally, and lead the operations in Asia and the mobile markets,” Virtala added.
The game is still in its proof-of-concept phase so we probably won’t be seeing a full release anytime next year. Development from the first year up until the first year of live operations will be co-financed by Remedy and Tencent with both companies splitting net profits from the game.
