Red Dead Redemption 2 saw record-breaking player numbers on Steam this weekend, peaking at 77,655 concurrent players this morning and just over 73,000 players on Saturday. For context, the previous record was 70,914 players which was set in January 2023.

The recent influx of players is largely attributed to the ongoing Steam Autumn Sale which slashed 67% off the base game and 70% off the Ultimate Edition. Another factor may be the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 6’s first official trailer in December which could have brought attention back to what some consider as Rockstar Games’ best and most immersive game to date. Some players might have also decided to revisit the award-winning western sandbox after upgrading their rigs following the Black Friday sales.

In any case, the game is currently receiving a lot of attention, although the renewed interest doesn’t seem to have carried over to Red Dead Online, the standalone MMO version of the game.
