PUBG Could Potentially Break Beyond the Video Game Medium
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds has been, by all accounts, a global phenomenon. While it is definitely still not perfect, Bluehole has made impressive strides ever since its first Early Access build, and its 1.0 release.
In an article broken to us by GameZone, comments made by PUBG Corp CEO Chang Han Kim, he would like to see the game expand past video games, with films, cartoons, and other forms of media.
“I’d like PUBG to become a universal media franchise based on the game. We want to take part in diverse industries including Esports, movies, drama, cartoons, animation, and more. In fact, we received a couple of love calls from a number of developers in Hollywood and Netflix. Our dream is to build a new game-based culture through various ways like this, and have the lead of that culture.”
To our knowledge, no deals have been made on paper between any sort of Hollywood executives, or others in the entertainment industry. However, considering you can find an anime for everything - including one that revolves around a pop idol group that are literally stone busts, featuring famous figures such as Saint George, Mars, and Hermes - a PUBG anime perhaps isn't so far out of the question.
Personal Thoughts
PUBG moving into other mediums could either be fantastic, or end terribly. Immediately, my time turns to Overwatch comics, which serve well to continue the story of the world outside of the game, but PUBG isn't exactly a game with a story to begin with. However, that doesn't mean a third party company can't step in, and write a Battle Royale/Hunger Games-esque story into the game, with PUBG Corp's permission.
