Psyonix Announces Rocket League Sideswipe For Android and iOS Launching Later This Year
Rocket League players will soon be able to take the vehicular soccer game on the go as Epic Games subsidiary Psyonix announces their plans to bring the game to Android and iOS devices. The upcoming mobile spin-off, titled Rocket League Sideswipe, will offer the same gameplay mechanics as the original game, rebuilt from the ground up to cater to mobile audiences.
Rocket League Sideswipe will feature shorter match times, 2v2 matches instead of 4v4, as well as a UI and controls specifically designed for mobile devices. Based on newly-released alpha gameplay footage, the mobile port also appears to be limited to a 2D side-scrolling plane rather than the full-action 3D stadiums seen in the original game.
“Rocket League Sideswipe will feature mobile controls that are easy to pick up whether you're a master of Rocket League or a new player still learning your way around the field. Plus, there are advanced mechanics, just like Rocket League, for those who want to climb the Competitive Ranks. In the garage, Rocket League Sideswipe will have robust car customization similar to Rocket League. Players can also expect an online Ranking system for competitive play.”
The game will be free-to-play although Psyonix has yet to reveal their monetization plans, which will be interesting to see considering Epic Games’ ongoing legal battle with Apple and Google over in-app purchases.
Rocket League Sideswipe is currently in Alpha testing in Australia and New Zealand on Google Play with a full launch planned for later this year. Take a peek at the upcoming game in the new Alpha gameplay trailer below. More information can be found on the Rocket League official site.
