Project Genom Is Headed To Steam Early Access On October 12th

Neuronhaze announced today that, over a year after it made it through Greenlight, Project Genom will finally be headed to Steam Early Access on October 12th. It will be launching as a buy-to-play title without "hidden payments."
Features of Project Genom include a non-targeting combat system, non-standard character progression, the ability to modify your body to become mutated or synthetic, vehicles, pets, spaceships, player-owned housing, and more.
The team at Neuronhaze has stated that Project Genom won't be your run-of-the-mill MMORPG that focuses on farming mobs. It features " the elaborate storyline, tough battles, role-playing itself and hardcore." There will be quests that require players to follow clues given by riddles, rather than simply go to a specified location or complete a specified task.
Additionally, a new patch that includes the following features was released yesterday.
- Added 27 new quests
- Developed Region System
- Improved character models
- Added new character voiceover
- Added new pretty wide location
- Fixed a lot of bugs
You can find the full set of patch notes here.
Matt's Take:
Project Genom is an incredibly promising concept and I've been waiting quite eagerly for a day when it is deemed relatively feature-complete. It is billed as a story-driven MMO with quests that really make you think, which is sadly uncommon these days. What's truly intriguing, however, is the promise of traveling from planet to planet once players build a spaceship. In all, Project Genom appears to have a lot to offer and I'm looking forward to trying it out again once Early Access begins.
