Mithril Studio Announces New First-Person Extraction Dungeon Crawler ‘Project Crawl’

Dark and Darker hasn’t even launched yet but it’s already got competition in the form of Project Crawl, an upcoming first-person dungeon crawler from indie developer Mithril Studio. The game is described as a PvPvE extraction game where players will take on fearsome monsters in their quest to discover priceless artifacts and obtain legendary weapons. The catch is that they’ll need to escape the dungeon to be able to bring home their spoils.
“Project Crawl offers a riveting experience, pitting players against one another and the dangerous dungeon environment,” Mithril Studio announced. “With a variety of characters to choose from, players will explore the mysterious darkness alone or with friends, gather loot, and battle monsters in this quest for victory and survival.”
Players will have access to various races and classes and will be able to plumb dungeons in groups of three, although the studio said that it’s open to the possibility of adding other game modes with varying team sizes in the future.
Notabley, the developers were quick to distance themselves from the copyright battle between Nexon and Ironmace over allegedly stolen assets used in Dark and Darker, despite the similarities between the two games.
“We want to make it crystal clear—we have absolutely zero affiliation with Nexon,” the studio said. The studio, however, wasn’t above taking advantage of the copyright complaint and Dark and Darker’s removal from Steam to hype up their own game.
The team will be running an alpha playtest on Steam from September 27-29 and is expected to launch into early access shortly thereafter. More information can be found in a series of community Q&A’s on Valve’s digital storefront.
