After some uncertainty about when it would made available to players of the extremely popular Android and iOS game Pokémon GO, Nintendo announced yesterday that the Pokémon GO Plus will finally be released on September 16th. The Pokémon GO-exclusive peripheral will cost $34.99 and will allow players to catch Pokémon without the need to be looking at their smartphone all of the time. Whenever a Pokémon is nearby, the peripheral will vibrate and its LED will flash green. You can then press the center button to attempt to catch the Pokémon. If you succeed in catching the Pokémon, the peripheral will flash its LED and vibrate again.

You can also use the device to get items from PokéStops. When you are near one, the peripheral will vibrate and its LED will flash blue. Once you have been notified, pressing the center button will automatically grab the items for you.

Additionally, contrary to previous reports, the Pokémon GO Plus will work while Pokémon GO is running in the background.

You can find more information about the Pokémon GO Plus on the official website.
