Old School RuneScape Responds To Concerns About New Runecrafting Mini-game

Last week, Jagex revealed their plans to add a new minigame in Old School RuneScape called Guardians of the Rift. The mini-game aims to make Runecraft skill training easier and more entertaining by sending players on a quest to help the Great Guardian close the Abyssal Rift in a tower defense-like instance.
Since the announcement, players have been sending their questions, feedback, and suggestions which the team addressed in the newly-updated announcement post. One of the main concerns is how XP gains from the mini-game compare to other Runecraft training methods such as crafting lava runes.
“We absolutely believe that greater effort should mean higher rewards,” said Jagex in response. “Since Guardians of the Rift involves loads of conscious player decisions, the XP rate is entirely contingent on how well the player knows the minigame. That's difficult for us to estimate at this stage, but we'll be closely monitoring how the XP rate holds up at launch and adjusting accordingly.”
Players also questioned whether adding a new Great Guardian pet was necessary considering that the Rift Guardian pet was already obtainable through traditional Runecrafting methods. There were also concerns that players might play the mini-game only for the pet as well as requests for a transmog option. The devs put these concerns up for a poll along with a bunch of other mini-game drops and rewards that the they need feedback on.
